Kelpie Hair: Kelpie's are adaptable creatures, and thus the wand is a good core for most types of magic, but especially water magic. It is excellent for all kinds of spells.
Veela/Siren Hair: Veela hair tends to be a bit unstable, and often favors a witch or wizard with a like temperament. Handy for Transfiguration in the right hands, not a very good choice for Charms work.
Thestral Hair: Thestral hair is a powerful and tricky substance that can be mastered only by a witch or wizard capable of facing death. The hairs come from the tail of a Thestral, a creature who can only be seen by those who have seen someone die. Since these creatures are so magical, wands made with cores of Thestral hair are very powerful to one who has mastered it. These wands are excellent for all kinds of magic, but mainly hexes, defensive spells, and for disillusionment charms.
Dragon’s Blood: Another unique core. Dragon’s Blood is an extremely volatile substance and it’s use a wand core is not advised. However, in November 2001, it was used by Lazarus Jacksmith, to create his own version of the Elder Wand. Thus far it has proved powerful, but it’s reliability is yet to be proven. This test will be passed with time.
Chimera Scale: Chimera scales are extremely rare, but possibly the most powerful core behind Thestral Hairs and Dragon’s Blood.
Thunderbird Feather: Feathers from the legendary Thunderbird, create powerful and stable cores. Most commonly used by American Wandmakers.
Mearas Tail Hair: Plucked from the ancient and noble race of Mearas these cores contain the attributes most noted in their natural owners. The seek wisdom and strength.
Ashwinder Ash: A commonly used core with an aptitude for Healing and Protection.
Demiguise Hair: A commonly used core, with a speciality in Transfiguration.
Runespoor Fang: A core that seeks the opposite of the Unicorn Tail Hair. Runespoor Fangs seeks owners who wish to devastate and destroy, to kill and maim, and who are selfish and self-centered. They often also seek an owner with intelligence enough to control their power.
Vampire Fang: A rare and often temperamental core. This core is outlawed in many countries, but can be acquired from the right craftsman. NOTE: Only Vampires can use this core because of laws prohibibiting the mistreatment of subspecies.
Basilisk Skin: A rare core, known to be powerful but extremely difficult to master, and the bond between wand and master can be fragile. However, mastery of this core is often by wizards with a deep interest and natural flare for the Dark Arts.
Minotaur Hair: These cores produce powerful spells in the right hands, and can be hard to control in the wrong hands. Often difficult to obtain they are somewhat of a rarity, but available quite often from the right Wandmaker. The yare often difficult to control for the first few years, until a bond is forged between owner and wand.
Hippogriff Talon: Excellent for Charm work.
Shedded Selkie Skins: These cores seek owners who are naturally advanced in Potion making.
Emu Feathers: A core that ironically seems to seek an owner with a natural talent for flying. Also known to seek owners skilled in Potions.
Sphinx Hair: Good for Transfiguration and Charms, but sometimes lack in their Potions output.
Caribou Antler. Grey Wolf Hair, Artic Fox Hair: Though these cores don’t excel in any area of magic, they do make extremely stable cores and once trained up, find an aptitude towards the area of magic most conquered by their owner.
Banshee Hairs: Known to be unreliable in the wrong hands, but great for curses and jinxes in the right hands.
Leprechaun Hair: A core that only lends itself to owners with prominent Irish blood in them. These cores are often regarded as unstable and unreliable in the hands of those without any Irish heritage.
Zilant Scales: Good for Protection magic, but leaves a lot to be desired in other areas. However, they are fast learners and the negatives can be suppressed somewhat.
Serpent Scale: The serpent is a mystical creature often misrepresented in literature. Dangerous and stealthy, the serpent was summoned to guard and defend ancient temples or places of power. They have the power to heal, poison or provide expanded consciousness, which would make a wise choice for one who wishes to brew potions or cast defensive spells. Chimera Scale: Chimera scales are extremely rare, but possibly the most powerful core behind Thestral Hairs and Dragon’s Blood.
Thunderbird Feather: Feathers from the legendary Thunderbird, create powerful and stable cores. Most commonly used by American Wandmakers.
Mearas Tail Hair: Plucked from the ancient and noble race of Mearas these cores contain the attributes most noted in their natural owners. The seek wisdom and strength.
Ashwinder Ash: A commonly used core with an aptitude for Healing and Protection.
Demiguise Hair: A commonly used core, with a speciality in Transfiguration.
Runespoor Fang: A core that seeks the opposite of the Unicorn Tail Hair. Runespoor Fangs seeks owners who wish to devastate and destroy, to kill and maim, and who are selfish and self-centered. They often also seek an owner with intelligence enough to control their power.
Vampire Fang: A rare and often temperamental core. This core is outlawed in many countries, but can be acquired from the right craftsman. NOTE: Only Vampires can use this core because of laws prohibibiting the mistreatment of subspecies.
Basilisk Skin: A rare core, known to be powerful but extremely difficult to master, and the bond between wand and master can be fragile. However, mastery of this core is often by wizards with a deep interest and natural flare for the Dark Arts.
Minotaur Hair: These cores produce powerful spells in the right hands, and can be hard to control in the wrong hands. Often difficult to obtain they are somewhat of a rarity, but available quite often from the right Wandmaker. The yare often difficult to control for the first few years, until a bond is forged between owner and wand.
Hippogriff Talon: Excellent for Charm work.
Shedded Selkie Skins: These cores seek owners who are naturally advanced in Potion making.
Emu Feathers: A core that ironically seems to seek an owner with a natural talent for flying. Also known to seek owners skilled in Potions.
Sphinx Hair: Good for Transfiguration and Charms, but sometimes lack in their Potions output.
Caribou Antler. Grey Wolf Hair, Artic Fox Hair: Though these cores don’t excel in any area of magic, they do make extremely stable cores and once trained up, find an aptitude towards the area of magic most conquered by their owner.
Banshee Hairs: Known to be unreliable in the wrong hands, but great for curses and jinxes in the right hands.
Leprechaun Hair: A core that only lends itself to owners with prominent Irish blood in them. These cores are often regarded as unstable and unreliable in the hands of those without any Irish heritage.
Zilant Scales: Good for Protection magic, but leaves a lot to be desired in other areas. However, they are fast learners and the negatives can be suppressed somewhat.
Serpent Scale: The serpent is a mystical creature often misrepresented in literature. Dangerous and stealthy, the serpent was summoned to guard and defend ancient temples or places of power. They have the power to heal, poison or provide expanded consciousness, which would make a wise choice for one who wishes to brew potions or cast defensive spells. A serpent scale would make an excellent companion to woods that draw off the element of earth and water.
Pegasus Wing Feather: The pegasus is a powerful creature of flight. Strong and agile, the pegasus is thought to create springs where ever its hoof touches the earth. A wing feather would be a wise choice for one who wishes to control the four winds or harness the power of lightning. It would make an excellent companion to woods that draw off the elements of air, lightning, and water.
Griffin Claw: A majestic creature of enormous strength, the griffin is consider to be king of beasts and birds; it possesses the bravery of a lion and the dexterity of an eagle. They are often known to guard vast treasures. A griffins claw is a wise choice for one who wishes to cast powerful defensive spells, charms or hexes. It would make an excellent companion to woods that draw off the elements of air and earth.
Manticore Hair: The manticore is an intellegent yet ferocious creature. With the brave heart of a lion and the cunning head of a human, the manticore is not a beast to be trifled with. A manticore hair would be a wise choice for one who wishes to cast dangerous hexes or miraculous charms. It would make an excellent companion to woods that draw of the element of earth, as the manticore dwells in the depths of dark forests.
Basilisk Fang: The basilisk is a deadly creature, known to be king of serpents. Poison dwells in its fangs and the mere gaze of a basilisk can bring death upon its victims. A basilisk fang would be a wise choice for one who has mastered the magical arts and can control its dark influence; that is, of course, if one wishes to cast good-willed charms and spells. For those who wish to cast hexes and dark magic, the basilisk fang is the core for you.
